This session will feature the work, reflections, and key learnings from OPEN, Shetland’s first youth-led charity, and their extensive experience in leading peer and youth-led research.
Join Shannon Boston, Rhiannan Burns and Emma Coutts to hear insights from OPEN’s transformational journey to becoming Shetland’s first youth-led charity, alongside their personal learnings from conducting young people-led research.
Since 2021, OPEN has delivered numerous peer research projects involving hundreds of young people. They have had four young people in paid peer research roles, and 19 have volunteered as core peer researchers. A great example of their work is their Shift Up project, which connects young people directly with local change-makers. Looking ahead, OPEN is particularly focused on how to translate peer research into meaningful action.

OPEN is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). OPEN Board of Trustees are all aged 16-29 and are responsible for the governance of the organisation, they meet monthly to lead on the strategic direction and overview of OPEN 's Projects.
